This collection of landscapes and seascapes were shot during several trips to Montenegro over the past 5 years.
My first journey in 2011 took me along the coastline from Tivat to the Albanian border - the sea provides an endless subject matter for me and this part of the Adriatic has a particular tone and colour that are instantly recognizable. Some of my best seascapes have been taken along this stretch . Sometimes completely abstract , sometimes with a sense of a human presence these images capture much of what I am often trying to achieve with my photography …a sense of wonder, a feeling of being there and a moment of meditation.
I was so taken by the beauty of the coastline that i decided to return to explore more of the landscape and found the area around the Durmitor mountains quite beautiful. The early morning mist in May curling around the the hills gave a magical , atmosphere and reminded me of the chinese ink paintings. Much of my work is derived or influenced by art from the past and I am often trying to create an image that crosses the line between photography and painting.
My most recent trip took me by helicopter along the coast around Budva with the aim of capturing coastal life . I was struck by the strong colours of the ocean contrasting with the umbrellas swimmers and floats. The patterns of the boats from the air looked like constellations in the evening light . These graphic images capture an old fashioned moment mixed with a sense of the joy and freedom that come with summer holidays
